How to use our papers
Our papers are hand-screened and like all traditional art wallpapers,
they come untrimmed and unpasted. Fill papers are priced by the roll and
are packaged as single, double and triple rolls. Borders, dadoes, and
enrichments are priced by the yard and are cut to the length you require.
Orders are filled as quickly as possible. Inquire about lead times when
placing your order.
An experienced installer familiar with art wallpapers will be skilled
in the techniques used to install wall and ceiling designs. Many homeowners
are confident of their abilities and install wallpaper themselves. We
include installation instructions
(PDF file) with each order. Skilled installers may be found through the
Wallcovering
Installers Association.
You will want to order samples.
No computer can accurately represent the true colors and shimmering effect
of metallic inks used to print our wallpaper. Samples are available for
all our patterns. For convenience, all the patterns in a collection can
be purchased in a sample-pack.
How much wallpaper will you need?
Estimating for patterns sold by the roll:
Calculating how much wallpaper to order is not difficult. A single roll
of wallpaper is 27 inches wide by 5 yards long and covers 30 square feet.
Measure the wall height and the perimeter of the room. Multiply the wall
height by the perimeter to calculate the total square feet of wall space.
Divide the total square feet of wall space by 30 to determine the number
of rolls required. The formula is: Number of rolls = (wall height x perimeter)
/30.
Do not subtract doors and windows when measuring the room; the extra paper
is needed for matching the pattern. If you choose
to use a tripartite design, the wall height is measured from the dado
to the frieze.
Estimating for patterns sold by the yard:
When a pattern that is sold by the yard is to be used as a fill, Aubrey
Enrichment for example, start by converting the width into feet. Aubrey
is 27 inches wide or approximately 2 feet wide. Calculate the area to
be covered in square feet and divide by the width of the paper. Then convert
feet to yards for the total number of yards to order.
Example: An area 10 x 10 feet is 100 square
feet. Divide 100 by 2 and the result is 50 linear feet. Divide 50 by 3
to convert to linear yards. 17 yards of Aubrey will cover 100 square feet.
Most of our patterns are printed 27 inches
wide. Osaka is printed in a historic width of 18.5 inches. Divide 18.5
inches by 12 inches to convert the width to 1.5 feet and proceed to calculate
the number yards needed for your project.
Estimating for borders, friezes and dadoes:
For borders, friezes and dadoes, simply measure the perimeter of the
room or the dimensions of the area to be enclosed with a border.
Keep in mind that some patterns are printed with multiple borders to a
width of paper and divide by this number to calculate the number of yards
needed.
